Draft for review. This page is a starting point written for Sprintile and has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Have it checked for the regions you operate in before launch.

The short version

Sprintile is a free word game. We collect what we need to run fair races and show leaderboards, we never sell your personal information, there are no ads or trackers, and you can delete your account at any time.

What we collect

  • Guests: a random guest id and name (like SwiftOtter482) stored in a cookie, your games, and the time each guess reached our server.
  • Accounts: your username, a hashed password, your email address (used only for password resets), your age confirmation, your games, and your settings.
  • Technical data: IP address (used for rate limiting and abuse prevention; we keep a salted hash of it with each game to spot shared answers, never the address itself), browser type, and errors.

How we use it

  • To run games, measure solve times, and rank results fairly, including spotting implausible results.
  • To show your stats and public leaderboard entries (accounts only; guests aren’t ranked publicly).
  • To send the password reset and email confirmation messages you ask for. Nothing else is emailed.
  • To keep the service secure and fix problems.

What’s public

Account usernames and Daily Race results on the leaderboards are visible to anyone. Your email address, guesses, and the answers you saw are never shown publicly.

Service providers

A few companies help us run Sprintile. Each handles data only to provide its service to us, and we don’t sell or share personal information with them for their own use.

  • Render (hosting and database, United States): runs the website and stores accounts, games, and settings on servers in Virginia.
  • Cloudflare (domain, DNS, and email forwarding): points sprintile.com at our host and forwards mail sent to our contact address to us.
  • Resend (account emails): sends the password reset and email confirmation messages you ask for, so it receives your email address and the message.
  • Plausible (analytics, only when we turn it on): counts visits and game events such as the difficulty played. It uses no cookies, and we never send it usernames, emails, or answers.

Your account data and games are stored in the United States. If you use Sprintile from another country, your data is transferred there.

Cookies and similar storage

  • Essential: your session or guest cookie and your last difficulty. The game doesn’t work without these.
  • Preferences: your light/dark theme, kept in your browser only.

There are no advertising or analytics cookies.

Your choices and rights

  • Delete your account from Settings. Your past results stay on old boards without your name.
  • Do not sell or share: we don’t sell or share personal information with anyone, apart from the service providers above, which act on our behalf.
  • Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, UK, or California), you can ask to access, correct, export, or delete your data. Email loganbuildinpublic+sprintile@gmail.com.

Children

Sprintile isn’t directed at children. Accounts require confirming you’re 13 or older. If you believe a child under 13 created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Retention

We keep account data while your account exists. Unclaimed guest data and expired reset links are removed over time. Server logs are kept for a short period for security.
